WIP this weekend.

Having had something of a hiatus the last few weeks, or should that be an hiatus, I'm just following up the Bounty Hunter with a mini from Khurasan.....

.....lots of detail on this figure, and a shot of the next army I'm painting made from the NAC figures from GZG. The colour scheme ( typical of me)  is 'borrowed' from photos in the Hammers Slammers rulebook, and I've tried to scale it down from 25/28mm.

The basic colour is dark grey, and the camo is done with a mid green, in patches, topped with dots of Vallejo red leather. My customary photography skills have failed once again to pick up the detail, but maybe if you screw your eyes up really tight, you might make some of it out.

I have tried to break up the uniformity by painting camo on just above the waist, just below, just armour or just fatigues, or any other variation on the theme.

I have another four finished and varnished, and yesterday I received the Khurasan Zebra Kilo team which will be my special forces team for this army. They're based and ready to go.

Because we have builders in and around the house at the moment, the place is upside down, and I have little room for modelling, so instead of using a spray primer for the minis, I am using a Vallejo (light grey) primer, which I would normally use in my airbrush, but have been applying with just an ordinary brush. I don't know how others have found it, but even applied this way, it covers nicely, and is fine enough to reveal all the detail without clogging it up if you are sensible about it. I'm tempted to do all my figures this way, but not vehicles.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. I use brush-on primer all the time... Vallejo white. I use a fairly big brush so it goes on fast, and no worries about missing the little crevices. I`d recommend it.

Your troopers look good, a nice subtle, credibly military scheme. The KM post-apocalyptic guy looks good too, a nice high-contrast paint job to make the detail show. Do you think he's supposed to be similar to any prior fictional character? I know at least one figure in that pack definitely is ;)

    1. Thanks for the encouragement, Allison. I have to confess that my knowledge of the post apocalyptic genre is pretty limited at best, so I'm afraid I can't answer the question! I do like painting the figures though!

  2. Nice, Gunny. At 200% picture enlargement the GZG figures are very well done!!

    1. Yes, well, the thing is........I have taken pictures before, then when I 'crop' them on Picasa they blow up to a size that doesn't really do my painting skills any favours, and as I need all the help I can get, I thought I would take photos from a bit of a distance, then when I do crop them I might have something that looks a bit better. I realise I am laying out my ignorance for all to see with this revelation, but at least I'm being honest about it! Perhaps I'll take some more shots and try to improve the result, as for once, I'm actually pleased with the colour scheme! Thanks for taking the time Jay.

    2. Hey Gunny, it's-all-good! I enlarged the pics to see how you managed to paint the detailed parts of the figures. And, man...they look good even when enlarged! No neg criticism intended, I don't do that. I am actually amazed at how well you can paint these little soldiers. It's-all-good brother modeler!!!

    3. Hi Jay- don't worry, no offence was taken or even considered, especially from you- I can spot a gentleman! I like feedback, but like you, I don't indulge in anything negative towards other bloggers. If they are kind enough to share their time, experience and cyber friendship with us all, why would anyone want to be unkind? Helpful advice, yes- anything else? I don't think so. Rant over, good to be in touch with you! Oh, and many thanks for the kind observations!

    1. Hi Fred. I cheated a bit with these NAC- basically they were painted one colour all over-Vallejo German Grey- highlighted by adding a bit of white to the base colour, then a few sharp highlights of GW's Codex Grey. Body armour and fatigues both done this way, then the camo on top. When I've tried to paint these in contrasting colours, then I found it a lot trickier, I agree. Thanks for taking the time!
