Ladies' Night!

As yet I haven't painted many female figures in 15mm, but most of those I possess seem to be wielding a wonderful selection of hardware, so I've been missing a trick.

So, without further ado, I present the cast of Ladies' Night.......well, I know there's only 3 of them, but I've spent most of the holiday weekend helping the family organise a Diamond Wedding party, with the subsequent clear up!

These are all Khurasan Miniatures as I'm sure you all know. Looking at their website, I was amazed at the detail the artist managed to get on the first figure in the picture. The grey/black colour scheme was also really appropriate IMO, so as I knew I wouldn't get anywhere near the standard of the original, I opted for a green uniform. The sculpting and detail is remarkable and delicate, but tricky to paint with a brush with more than three hairs.

So here are the individual pictures:

Next the blue jean baby...

And finally, the one whose features I have done least justice to- as Jethro says, 'Anyone can be ugly, but she's abusing the privilege!'

Any hints and tips gratefully received.

  1. I like them, and I think going with a green uniform was an inspired choice. I love to see models painted in a scheme that's not just a duplicate of the original show piece.

  2. Thanks Mike! I don't have a very good record when it comes to avoiding copying, but I'm trying to overcome an underactive imagination!

  3. Nice work on these. All three are really hard to paint from my experience of the latter two. Smaller detail doesn't always mean better!

  4. Very kind of you Spacejacker. You're right about the detail of course, it isn't always better. I'm still in awe of the sculptor though, because of his/her finesse. Thanks for the comment!

    1. Ooh! I really like your Genocidal Overlord. This is probably one of your best paint jobs. That green is so warm and rich and goes with the fancy-dancy epaulets so much better than a dull military drab would have.

And, yeah they're amazing sculpts. I was trying to put some paint on KM's Desiree Kim and Dave Rimmer last night, and holy gods my eyes hurt after a while. The website paintjob (by Jen Haley!) was a useful reference to actually SEE the tiny details, but also depressing to look at :/

The middle figure is one of the zombie survivors, right? And I assume her colours are... Leela from Futurama, right? ;)

    2. Thanks indeed Allison. I wouldn't be surprised if the figures you mention were sculpted by the same person, as the style is very similar. If painting these makes our eyes hurt, how on earth did the sculptor manage!! Do you know, the blue jeans figure is exactly right for Leela (well, plus a superfluous eyeball), but it was just a happy or subconscious coincidence. Thanks for the feedback!

    1. Many thanks Simon! I'm gradually taking to the scale, but for too many years I've been using paint that is too thick, and the penny is only just starting to drop. It's great to get help from all the guys ans gals out there who follow the hobby and generously give their advice.

  6. Very nice going, Gunny! You've got to love a two gun toting bad ugly momma with no makeup. You only get one chance to LOL at her! Sweet work, Buddy.

  7. Hiya Jay! Thanks for taking a look. I'm gradually starting to refine my technique. There's a long way to go yet, but I'm enjoying the journey. Happy Easter to you and yours, and indeed to everyone who is kind enough to look in!
