I received a small package of miniatures earlier this week, and had to push some of them to the front of the queue. They are some of the latest offerings from Armies Army, and come under the heading of Enemy Unknown. Anyway, I promised Keith from Armies Army that I had some of his minis in the pipeline, so here they are, unvarnished and without a bit of finishing on the bases. a very unchallenging paint scheme I'm afraid, but I actually like the simplicity.
I would like to paint some of the PLA/Sino minis soon as well, but my hobby time is limited, like so many of you out there! Thanks for taking the time to take a look!

Nice color, Gunny. The troops have a warm shady sand color. Great job. Their sting is silent and deadly.
ReplyDeleteYou know, and this surely is only in my mind, every time I see these guys, from my ancient memories as a kid, I see the helmeted hero Commando Cody King of the Rocket Men. It's something about their helmet. Oh well, this nonsense is stuck somewhere in a dark recess of my brain and can't be dislodged.
Hey Jay! Yes, I know what you mean about the rocket men. I find these minis interesting, they do have a bit of a Flash Gordon era look about them don't they? Do you think they might have a place in Zamazonia? They do have that retro look! I have to confess, this reply is being typed under the influence of several glasses of rioja this evening, so it may make less sense than usual, although I generally make little sense as it is! Have a good weekend my friend, plenty of naps and relaxation. Thanks for the response!!!
DeleteInteresting question. Thus far Zamazonia has revealed only non Imperial types of beings. Perhaps, at some time a scenario may require a governmental type trooper to keep the likes of Big Boss Bear in line with the ruling classes stipulations for commerce and smuggling.
DeleteAnd, it would be very easy to convert these troops to "flying troopers." Hey, if pigs can fly, then why not these guys.
Great job Gunrunner. The burnt orange colour you chose for them looks excellent and suit them very well. I want some of them PLA/Sino figures as well. I need to get all my Aliens finished first though.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Simon. I'm sure if you had more time than me you could make much more of them!
DeleteVery nice indeed. Considering I've not promoted and launched the enemy unknown yet, I'm happy to see them out :)
ReplyDeleteI find orange is very hard to do, so good job! I've a set of yellow I'm painting up so ill a post them up. In the pipeline, I've coming. Hq, drones, heavy weapons and more of the shield bearers 2 in the standard pack. I'm playing with a link jet printable acetate film (old school over head projector stuff) to make some force shield transfers and one for the commander whom is working on wrist comms. Ill post you some if they work:)
Thanks
Keith
Ps
More PLA are coming to...plus an APC:)
Wish I had the time and money to release them all at once !
Many thanks Keith! The pictures don't really show the true colour of these minis- in fact in all modesty, they look better in the flesh than my poor photography would suggest, but the colour scheme is this- a base of dark(ish) red, VMC926 Red, washed with Army Painter strong tone (I love that stuff) dry-brushed with VMC947 Red, highlights with VMC851 Bright Orange. Basically, as this would suggest, it's, er, red rather than orange. Since I posted the picture, I have redone the weapons and not bothered with the top highlight as I don't think it is well done, maybe too light. I'm looking forward to the next batch of releases. I had decided to curb my collecting severely as I have far too many figures to paint, but I can't resist yours, so I guess I'll keep on buying!
DeleteI think certain colors like orange yellow, black and white need super duper lighting /camera to get the full glory out of them!
ReplyDeleteStrong tone is brilliant isnt it!
Im happy you couldn't resist and happy you are back posting :)
